SMS Safeguarding Practices

Safer Recruitment

We are committed to recruiting and selecting staff who share our commitment to safeguarding. Our safer recruitment practices include:
– Comprehensive criminal record checks for all employees and volunteers
– Verification of identity, qualifications, and employment history
– Reference checks with specific safeguarding questions
– Safeguarding-focused interview questions and scenarios
– Mandatory safeguarding training for all new staff before starting work with students

Staff Training & Education

All members of our school community receive regular training to ensure they understand their safeguarding responsibilities:
– Annual safeguarding training for all staff, faculty, and administrators
– Specialized training for designated safeguarding leads
– Training on recognizing signs of abuse, neglect, and emotional distress
– Education on online safety, digital citizenship, and cyber protection

Boarding Safeguards

Our boarding program includes enhanced safeguarding measures to ensure the safety and well-being of residential students:
– 24/7 supervision by trained residential staff
– Clear protocols for overnight care and emergency situations
– Regular check-ins and wellness monitoring
– Secure access controls and visitor management
– On-site Health Centre with nursing staff

Student Voice & Empowerment

We believe students should be empowered to understand their rights and speak up when something doesn’t feel right:

Reporting a Concern

If you have any concerns about a child’s safety or well-being, we encourage you to speak up. Every concern is taken seriously and handled with care, sensitivity, and confidentiality.

How Parents Can Support Safeguarding

Stay Informed
Read and understand our safeguarding policies. Attend parent information sessions on child safety topics.
Maintain Open Communication
Talk with your child about their day, their friendships, and any concerns they might have. Let them know they can always come to you.
Report Concerns
If you have any concerns about your child’s safety or the safety of any student, please contact the school immediately.
Monitor Online Activity
Be aware of your child’s online presence and maintain open conversations about internet safety at home.
